Yearly update?

2 min read
Wowie! It's been awhile since I've posted anything here! Sorry guys D;

Con season has semi-started for me this year. I unfortunately don't have the opportunity to travel much this summer so my con schedule is being kept to a minimum with only Otafest, Animethon and probably Expo in September.

I realize I never did an update from my con year in 2013 when I went to Anime North...I really wish I did now because it was such an amazing experience to go with :icon2sosmia: and another friend. I'm hoping next year to go there AND a U.S. con. I can dream right?

This year is a slow year for me in terms of new costumes. It probably won't be till mid July-August that I'll make something new. I've been itching to finish my Warrior of Light cosplay and retouching my Hikaru armor as well as making the sword.

For Animethon this year, my friends and I have big plans, because we have a huge cosplay group for a favorite childhood anime. I know it's not only my dream cosplay group coming true but many others as well. I am so grateful though to have such amazing friends who are willing to participate in this! :) Stay tuned for cast listing of characters :)

:iconlillywh: also has a group of dwarving that she wants to do with everyone. I am stoked for it but I don't know how I feel about facial hair yet...

Cosplay update

This year I seem to have so much more to work on for animethon. I am super stoked for this con for numerous reasons-JYB is going to be there (woot woot!), I'm hosting my first panel, and just seeing everyone again-are the top three on my list.  I've never hosted a panel before but my sister and I were just joking one night about con survival and staying awake at a convention (since it's too familiar to many of us the night before a con we're pulling an all-nighter to finish everything for the con). That pretty much planted the seed for the panel. I'm hosting the panel (alongside with :iconlillywh:) "The Nerd's Guide to Con Survival" and it's more of a parody of con survival than something someone should take too close to heart! Hopefully everyone will be able to come out the panel!

Cosplays...are not done. I have finished 1/3 that I need done. My line up *roughly..may change* include zatana from YJ, Dark Magician Girl from YuGiOh! and Totooria from Atelier Totori. The Atelier series has such gorgeous outfits!! I'm so excited to start this one. With my job this summer, I've hardly had anytime to do anything! I'm getting anxious waiting for my one wig to come in...it feels like forever since we ordered it. Other than that I'm really happy with how my Dark Magician Girl cosplay turned out. The hat was...infuriating. Never again do I want to make another hat that sticks out like there is no tomorrow!!!

But that's all for now :) See y'all soon!

Otafest, as always, was an amazing convention to go to. This year they expanded the venue into some of the (what looked like) newer buildings and it definitely had a more "con" vibe to it. The weather was amazing and seemed to hold up pretty well for the whole weekend.

:iconlillywh: helped me with my makeup and bald cap for my Aang cosplay which took pretty long to do. But overall I was so happy with it. For Lillywh's first time doing latex and bald caps I think she did a pretty good job. They are tougher than I thought they would be to apply and it probably didn't help with the massive amount of hair I have on my head.

After getting ready and putting everything away, we met up with innovators to walk around the con. It felt weird being a boy and even weirder being bald...HAAA. I got so flustered when people asked for pictures. Which was sad because before the con Lillywh and I were practicing poses and they came so naturally. But at the con I froze. Luckily everyone was forgiving and allowed me to have a moment haha.

We walked around a lot and saw so many amazing costumes. I got to catch up with a bunch of people too. It was real nice seeing everyone again. I was sad for missing a good chunk of the cosplay contest thought :/ Hopefully next year I'll be able to take it all in

On the Sunday of Otafest, I wore my Hikaru cosplay and enetered in the hall masq. It was amazing seeing all the costumes at the venue concentrated in one area. Everyone looked amazing! I was so happy though because I took away first place in the journeyman division which had me beaming :)

My favourite part of otafest that never seems to disappoint is the closing ceremonies. Last year the male execs were wearing maid costumes, this year the female execs got pied, whiskered, glittered, featheres and watered down. IT was sooo funny.  I love that they're always fundraising for a good cause and aways exceed what they want to make. Soo proud of the otafest community :)  I was super happy to be part of the action and witness everything!

Now I'm still in a lul after the con. I've been reading lots and haven't really worked on many cosplay related things. I'm finishing my spring term so that will mean more time to dedicate to my sewing! I need to go fabric shopping soon to get started on everything. ai ya!

This time of year is always my favourite for con season. It means the start of it (for me at least) and fresh ideas for cosplays and putting everything in gear!

Otafest is happening this weekend and I can say that every night since the end of April, I have been working late into the night to get everything done. Soo much fabric, pins and needles are everywhere. I'm excited though. I managed to finish my Hikaru cosplay last week which made me super excited. Pretty much jumped up and did a happy dance :) Got one more to do and I have to pack and everything will be ready to go.

From the amount of sewing thats getting done in the last couple of weeks I can definitely say its getting a fair use. Burning rubber for sure. haha

Super stoked for the weekend. SUPER stoked :D Can't wait to see everyone again (:

Finally, I've had the time (and energy) to work on some cosplay goodies. I think my motivation for cosplay came back after watching a documentary on cosplay from AN ( I want to go there so badly).

From me not studying and having so much good food I managed to work on my Hikaru cosplay for the up and coming con season. I managed to finish styling the wig (yeah!) which was a lot of fun! It took me a whole day but I think it looks..decent? I just don't want it to look flat or anything. I'm trying to get the 'wild child' look in her hair. Hopefully this doesn't sound too insane.

Last night I finished the knee pads and I'm debating to gloss/seal them or not. They look so badass without the gloss. Oh decisions decisions!
Stay tuned for progress photos! I plan to actually post them this time haha

I really want to go to a con soon. Maybe I can get SOBA to workout if I can get the day off of work :s
I can't wait to see everyone again. I've had my head in a  hole for so long with school and work :(

How is everyones cosplays going? Got any big plans for this season?
